Social Value Strategy

Social Value is the systemic change created within communities that leads to improved quality of life. It is closely linked with terms such as social justice and social equity. It considers impacts across generations, communities, socio-economic groups and geographies and is linked to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Social Value is about people and the role that environmental, economic and social factors have in influencing their lives.

The TGP Social Value Strategy provides a framework for Social Value for the next 15 years which has been designed in response to a Local Needs Analysis and stakeholder engagement carried out in 2023. A review will be undertaken every 5 years to ensure the Social Value Strategy meets the evolving business and community needs.

At TGP we want to be an agent of change for our workforce, local environment, community and young people. We will do this by embedding Social Value in our operations to deliver sustainable impact in our local area.

To develop this Social Value Strategy, TGP undertook:

These steps identified Skills and Education, Employment, Health and Wellbeing, and the Local Living Environment as relevant local priorities that TGP can help address with young people and our workforce as priority target groups.

Our themes

Our Social Value investment in our workforce, local community, environment, and young people focuses on three strategic themes.

Within each theme we have identified key cross-cutting activities we will undertake that are critical to addressing the key challenges and meeting the vision and principles of this strategy.

Community support

Essex Wildlife Trust

Situated adjacent to the River Thames, TGP is committed to preserving and enhancing the natural environment. The Essex Wildlife Trust’s activities align with TGP’s Social Value Strategy Theme of, “supporting environmental sustainability”. By partnering with the Essex Wildlife Trust as a Platinum Member TGP is keen to support the Trust’s ongoing activities and initiatives and we look forward to opportunities in the future to collaborate on local environmental projects.

Thurrock Family Hubs

Several people connected with TGP have, or have recently had, young children and we are aware of the vital role Family Hubs play in providing young families with safe spaces to play, learn and seek various types of support. The services and facilities the Family Hubs provide align with two of TGP’s Social Value Themes of “inspiring young people” and “promoting wellbeing in the community”. By providing improved outdoor spaces for the Family Hubs, TGP is pleased to be able to support the community and the development of local children.

Thurrock Foodbank

The Thurrock Foodbank undertakes very important work within the community of Thurrock which aligns with TGP’s Social Value Theme of, “promoting wellbeing in the community”. As a result of recent cost pressures on households, TGP wanted to provide support to the Foodbank to be able to assist the local community. TGP made an initial donation in for Christmas 2023 and has provided ongoing monthly donations to help the Foodbank plan its ongoing work throughout the year.
